Dr. Lawrence J. Calagna says he actually gravitated towards the profession of dentistry at an early age. He started with an aptitude toward problem solving and medical care. But, "I chose Prosthodontics as my specialty because it allows me to be constructive and creative – with dentistry, there’s always a new, improved way to solve a problem, and I enjoy being on the leading edge of innovation and technology."
Dr. Calagna graduated from Adelphi University with a BA in 1963, and followed up with his DDS from the NYU College of Dentistry in 1967. He did his internship at Beth Israel Medical Center, and then completed his post-graduate training in Prosthodontics. He then returned to NYU to achieve his Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD). Since then he has continued as a teacher, lecturer, and author in Prosthodontics.
For Dr. Calagna, the number one quality to look for in any medical provider is honesty. "The patient / doctor relationship is built on trust", he says. "Without honesty, trust is hard to gain. I’ve structured my work around the relationship between myself and my patients."
Swiftness and expertise are the other two focuses of Dr. Calagna’s treatment plans. He remembers from his childhood that every visit to the dentist was time consuming. "My patients have lives," he comments. "My job is to give them a great smile so they can go back to living them! I’ve pursued extensive training in just one specialty in order to offer the best – and often speediest - possible treatment."
When he’s not focusing on cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Calagna can be found on the golf course. Otherwise, he is spending time at home with his wife,Terry, their daughter, and two grandchildren. They all enjoy dining at Moscato in Scarsdale, or Moderne Barn in Armonk to enjoy the delicious food and atmosphere of these great local eateries.
Dr. Calagna is now retired and residing in Florida with his family full time. We all wish him the best in this next stage of his life.
