Periodontist Dr. Kevin Loshak decided to become a dentist early: he chose his career path in sixth grade. Loshak attended the State University of New York at Albany to achieve his BA in Psychology. Later, he obtained his DDS from the University of Maryland Dental School. He followed up with a residency at Booth Memorial Medical Center in Queens. He also did postgraduate work in the periodontal program at the Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery.
Though he wasn’t looking to join a new practice, Dr. Brisman invited Loshak to visit the Scarsdale practice and was very impressed. “I am always focused on quality, expertise, and personalized care,” Loshak says. “The quality of work being done was excellent, the expertise was undeniable, and every patient was being treated like the practice’s only patient. I gladly agreed to come on board!”
Dr. Loshak specializes in periodontics in Westchester, NY. His job is to ensure healthy gums and pave the way for rehabilitative procedures. “The biological aspects of periodontics always attracted and interested me,” he says of his choice of specialty. Dr. Loshak knows that periodontal treatment is a team effort. He depends on patients to do their part by practicing careful oral hygiene. Daily brushing and flossing, with special care to clean along the gum line, can help prevent gum disease. Left untreated, gum disease can lead to numerous complications, including tooth loss and heart disease. Dr. Loshak can help patients at all stages of gum disease to avoid these complications.
Although he often performs deep cleanings and other dental care to treat gum disease, he especially enjoys cosmetic dentistry. “Esthetic crown lengthening remains my favorite procedure because it combines biology and art – you are using science and your skills to make people look and feel better.”
When he’s not at the practice, Dr. Loshak spends time with his wife at their home in Roslyn, NY. The couple has two grown daughters. Loshak enjoys outdoor activities such as skiing, golf, and tennis. He always makes his family a priority for his off hours. He says his mother remains his greatest inspiration. “She still drives, rides her bike, and organizes these amazing trips for herself and her friends,” he says. Dr. Loshak also gives back to his community and profession by teaching at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset.
