If you are one of the millions of people that have dentures, then you may also be one of the people that suffers a little discomfort from time to time. If you are somebody who is suffering from ill-fitting dentures, then you may benefit from denture realignment.

If you are not familiar with what a denture reline is, then this post is here to help bring you up to speed with what a denture reline is and how it could benefit you and give you back the comfort you once had from your dentures.

What Is Denture Realignment?

While you may have had your dentures for a while, lately, you may have noticed that they aren’t as smooth fitting as they once were.

If this is the case, then it is possible you can benefit quite a lot from the simple process of a denture reline. As we get older, it is no secret that our bodies can see a lot of change; this change happens everywhere and cannot be avoided.

When the change starts to take effect in your mouth, the gums and bone will degrade and therefore leave you with ill-fitting dentures that can be uncomfortable in your mouth. To rectify this and get your dentures to fit like a glove once again, acrylic can be applied to the dentures to reshape them and have them fit your mouth as they once did.

What Should You Look Out For?

If your dentures need relining, there are a few things you should be looking out for. The first thing you should pay attention to is the way the dentures are sitting in your mouth. If you have noticed that you have to frequently adjust the dentures to sit properly, it’s almost a guarantee that they will require a denture reline.

You should also be on the lookout for any pain or discomfort in the gum that you have not noticed before. The pain can often be attributed to the dentures slipping out of place and causing sores on the gums.

Another thing you should be mindful of is any impediment with your speech. If your dentures start to fit incorrectly, you may have difficulty speaking and saying words as clearly as you once did.

What Are My Options

When it comes to denture relines, you generally have three options, these options are:

Soft Reline – Required if your gums are too tender to put wear your dentures any longer. Uses a soft material to cushion and reshape.

Hard Reline – A hard reline should be done every two years and will generally be done by a prearranged appointment.

Temporary Reline – If you suffer from tender and sore gums and haven’t had your dentures seen to at all or in a long time, this is the reline that will work for you.
