This time of year can come with travel hazards.
As your Westchester dentist, we care about you, our patients, and we know that the holiday season can get busy and hectic. Many people are traveling during this time of year. In upstate New York, snow and ice is definitely a factor during the winter. It is important to plan ahead and be aware of traveling conditions. This can lead to safer travels during the season.
We want you to have a safe holiday, so we put together a few tips on travel safety during the winter.
-
Make sure and check ahead to see if your flight has changed.
Weather during this time of year can impact flights. Even flights to warm destinations can change, so it is always smart to check up on the status of your flight and the weather.
-
Be careful when driving in snowy conditions.
Keep up to date on local weather and winter travel warnings. Even if you are anxious to be somewhere or in a hurry, it is better to be safe than sorry. If there is a travel warning, it may be best to skip driving all together and wait until road conditions have improved. If you must drive, make sure you have a full gas tank, a first aid kit, jumper cables, and warm gloves and a hat. That way, you can be prepared in almost any situation.
-
Charge your smartphone before going on a trip.
Make sure you have your phone and other electronic devices fully charged before leaving. At the airport, charging stations might be scarce because this time of year is busy for travel. If possible, bring a portable charger with you, too. If driving, bringing a car charger can ensure your phone is charged if an emergency situation does arise.
-
Bring snacks with you.
Keep snacks and drinks, including water, with you when you’re traveling in a car. Also, bring food and refill your water bottle after security if you are flying. It’s always good to have food on hand in case wait times are longer than expected.
-
If you’re stuck at the airport, technology can be your best friend.
Go to the ticket counter to see how they can help you first, but there are other ways to get help finding a new flight. Apps like Next Flight can be used to help you find a flight. You can also call the airline on the phone.
